Makeover

I'm sure you've noticed the change in the blog recently and that's not the only change I have in store. This weekend has made me think about many different things I can do to makeover myself and my life. I've had plenty of time to think lately because I haven't had to run myself ragged with work, housework, and homework.  School isn't in session right now so I've had a lot of downtime. That isn't necessarily a good thing.

When I have too much downtime, I tend to eat more because there's nothing else to do. However, I haven't been doing that this time because I've been filling my days with other, more productive things, like updating my blog. :-)

Anyway, one thing I'm going to attempt for this whole makeover thing is to work on wearing makeup during the day. Because I work from home, I don't usually wear makeup because no one really sees me. Of course, when I have a video meeting I'm always presentable but those don't happen very often. I think that if I take the time to make myself look pretty, I'll feel better throughout the day. It's just a thought. This coincides with me getting up earlier and working out in the morning. My makeup will go on after my workout and shower.

One of the other makeover things I'm doing is to draft and stick to a budget. We've tried doing this in the past but it didn't work. This time things are going to be different because we have some things we want/need to save for. Besides, there's absolutely nothing wrong with having a budget. Maybe it will help the boys learn good money management.

The last part of the makeover is food! Now that it's summer, I'm going to hit the farmer's markets more often for fresh, local produce. We've also got some things coming off in our own garden that we don't have to pay for. Yesterday I had my first home grown cucumber of the season and it was so good! I'm also going to start eating more fish and trying new dishes.

One of the things I really can't get a handle on is carbs. I've looked into the Atkins diet a number of times but everything I think is healthy, isn't. For example, I had Cracklin' Oat Bran this morning for breakfast and I'm already over 100 g of carbs! How in the world am I supposed to eat on the Atkins plan without going over 25 g of carbs?! I'm open for suggestions if anyone has any.

Speaking of breakfast, I need to rant for a bit about town water and the Brita Pitcher. For a while now, I've been filtering my water with the Brita Pitcher because I have town water and really don't like the taste of chlorine. Anyway, I brewed my coffee this morning (with water from the pitcher) and it tasted like crap. It was so bad I threw out the whole pot (not literally, of course). Does that mean that the town is using more chemicals or that my pitcher isn't functioning properly? Either way, I was frustrated because I couldn't have my coffee. I guess I need to start buying water by the gallon just so I can have coffee.

It's time for me to wrap this up so I can head out to the pool. Have a great day!
