No Choice

I went to the doctor last week and got some blood work done. My results were due in today and I've been stressing about it for days. Last week didn't leave me much time to think about it because I was so busy but it's been on my mind a lot since Sunday. Anyway, I go to the doctor's office this morning and learned that I no longer have a choice.
According to my blood work, I'm borderline diabetic and my triglycerides are out of control. Generally, triglycerides are supposed to be less than 150. Mine are - brace yourself - 338! My total cholesterol isn't that bad (218; 200 is normal) but the doctor prescribed Lipitor because my triglycerides are so high.

I have to go back in 3 months to check my levels again and this time I have to fast. My goal is to be at least 15 pounds lighter when I return in August. I can't believe I'm 32 years old and on cholesterol medication! I hope this is the wake up call I need to get me to finally follow through. I can't tell you how scared I am. The first thing I thought of was my boys.

My day today will be spent getting my plan together. I'm researching ways to cook healthier and the best foods to eat. I'm blessed to have such wonderful friends; many of whom have volunteered to workout with me. I can't ask for better people in my life! With that being said, I have to be around to be there for them when/if they need me.

Okay, I'm off to find a diabetic eating plan to follow. While I haven't officially been diagnosed with diabetes, following a diabetic diet plan will decrease my sugar and cholesterol. And, that's what I'm after.

I found the livestrong.com/myplate to be a giant help for watching my carbs. Wish I had some great recipes for you, but I hated all of the recipes that I came across. Portion control, eliminating fast food (almost), and water, water, WATER, were my greatest allies. Good luck! You can do it!
