Okay, so here's what's been happening in my life since my last post. I've all but left SparkPeople because I've found something so much better! I'm still on SP but not as actively as I was last week. That's because of FitBit. I was searching the web for slimcoach (if you're a BL fan, you know what I'm talking about and if you're not a BL fan, it's a wearable tracker that tracks steps, calories burned, etc.) when I found FitBit. It's very similar to slimcoach but it's so much cheaper!
Here's how it works - log on to www.fitbit.com to purchase the little gem. It's $99.95 (free shipping and NO monthly fees) and it's available in black/blue and black/plum. I, of course, bought the black/plum because it's the closest to pink as I could get. It took about 3-4 days for me to receive it, which isn't long at all. The only thing I didn't like while waiting for it to arrive is that there wasn't a way for me to track it. The website just said that my order shipped, but that's not a big deal to me.
Once it arrived, I had to log on to FitBit to install the software and sync the unit and to charge it. It comes with a base so it can be charged and as long as you're within 15 feet of the base (which plugs in to any USB port) and your PC is on, it automatically syncs. After I had finished this and set up my account, I was looking around to see what other apps are available. There are a bunch of apps available for this little bugger and I immediately signed up for most of them.
The reason I moved away from SP was because it doesn't sync with FitBit but I found an awesome site that does. It's called Lose It! and I was blown away with it. The format is amazing and unlike any I've ever seen and I've used a lot of online trackers in my time.
Another app I found is Earnd It and it rewards you for exercising! It's based on a points system and once you reach so many points, you're rewarded with gift certificates/gift cards from select retailers. How awesome is that?! And, it syncs with FitBit!
I also found an app that notifies you when your FitBit battery is getting low. It will either send you an email or a text message or both. I chose to be notified via email because there aren't any data charges and it comes to my phone anyway.
Lose It! and Earnd It can also be linked to your Facebook and Twitter accounts in an effort to help hold you accountable. Don't worry, none of these reveal your weight; they just reveal what badges you've earned and the number of pounds you've lost.
Oh before I forget, FitBit even tracks your sleep! Have you ever gotten up in the morning feeling like you haven't slept? Yeah, me too. This thing will track when you went to sleep, how restful your sleep was, the number of times you woke up during the night, and when you wake up. What other tracker do you of that does that?
Okay, it's time for me to get going. I've got a busy week ahead of me and I'm going to unwind with the hubby before heading off to bed. Check out this links throughout this post if you want to learn more.
