I don't have health insurance and there's no way I can afford to pay for it out of pocket. So, that leaves it as not an option for me at this point. I'm not sure I would follow through with it if I had insurance though. It seems to me that gastric bypass or lap band doesn't provide the lifestyle change that's required to maintain weight loss. While it's true that it doesn't take as much to make you full after having a surgery like that, but how does it teach you the right foods to eat and portion control?
These are the things I'm concerned about. As a fan of the Biggest Loser, I saw a season where one contestant had undergone gastric bypass years earlier (many of you may remember Dari from the Military Wives special). However, because she wasn't taught portion control and how to eat, the gastric bypass was another weight loss tactic wasted. That's a lot of money thrown down the toilet, if you ask me.
I guess what I'm going to have to do is contact someone who's had it done and, hopefully, kept the weight off. I'll see what I can come up with. It's time for me to get going now. Have a great weekend!
