Taking Control

I've been thinking a lot lately about how little control I exert over my life. I realize that I just by and let things happen to me instead of making things happen. What a sad realization! It's time I take control of me.

Every day this week, I've gone out for lunch. I even bought breakfast some days, too. After thinking about how much that crappy, albeit good, food cost me (more than fiscally), I can't believe I chose to eat it. I was going to McDonald's twice a day (lunch and on the way home for another frappe) and Hardee's for breakfast. Between the two, I was spending about $15 a day (that's $75 a week!) on food that was thrown together and full of everything that isn't good for you. How disappointing.

There are 2 upcoming purchases I'm going to be making that I'm hoping will make taking control easier; BodyMedia and Michael Thurmond's Six Week Body Makeover. A co-worker has the body makeover and we decided that we'd do it together once mine arrived. Both purchases are pretty steep but they're going to be worth it in the long run. Once I become healthier and more fit, they'll have paid for themselves 10 fold.

In my recent thinking, I've made many decisions and now it's time for the follow through, which is the hardest part of any decision. I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow and it's not going to be pretty but it's time I relinquish all fears and doubts and, like Nike says, just do it! Caroline Manzo (RHONJ) said that our life isn't a dress rehearsal; we don't get to do it again (watch this Sunday's season finale to hear it verbatim) and it really resonated with me.

I'm digging out my book tonight to finalize my plan, which I'll post here once it's complete. It would be awesome if I could hit a gym on my lunch hour but that's not really feasible. It takes me about 10 minutes to get across town so that's 20 minutes, roughly, sitting in the car. By the time I got to the gym and changed my clothes, I'd have about 20 minutes with the equipment before it's time to get dressed, fix my hair, and reapply my makeup before it's time to head back to the office.

Enough talk - it's time to take action!
