Catching Up

I was up until about 2 am catching up on all the shows my DVR recorded for me last week. I know I shouldn't have been up that late for many reasons but it's the only time I get to watch my shows in silence. The boys are in bed asleep and my husband usually doesn't ask me a million questions.
One of the shows I watched last night was the season premiere of The Biggest Loser. I've been a fan of the show since it first aired but sometimes I have to wonder how realistic it really is. Think about it - who in the real world can spend 8 hours a day working out, have access to a personal trainer 24/7, and have a kitchen stocked full of healthy choices without purchasing them themselves? No one I know.

Don't get me wrong - I love the show and I've never missed an episode (thanks to my DVR). The show makes it difficult for the viewers who are watching to stay motivated to a degree. If viewers at home are working out with the contestants (while watching the show, I mean), many, if not all, are going to be severely discouraged when the contestants weigh in and lose 10+ pounds and they weigh in and only lose 1-2 pounds. I can hear some viewers now - "Why aren't I losing the amount of weight the contestants are?"

Personally, I think the show should try something more realistic. Take it on the road; pick 3 cities (since there are 3 trainers) and work with the contestants in real life situations. Imagine how many people would tune it to see people in real-life situations working to lose weight with the Biggest Loser trainers. I think it would also help motivate more people in similar situations because the scenarios are much more realistic.

I love watching the show and it never fails to make me cry. The only downside is that it's not very realistic. I'm not going to stop watching but I wanted to put my 2 cents out there. And, now I'm done. Since it's Sunday, I've got a lot to do today before going back to the office tomorrow.
